Art Therapy is a therapeutic modality that combines powerful counseling techniques along with art-making to help improve emotional, mental health, promoting self-regulation. Art Therapy is a unique approach because it appeals to both verbal and non-verbal individuals allowing a resolution to emotional, behavioral, educational, and social problems, in a creative way.
Art therapy interventions are available for children starting at age 2 to 100 years old. Part of the process of participating in art therapy is learning to allow oneself to create without judgment of the work that is made.
Art Therapy for Addictions
Art Therapy Group
Art Therapy group for adults 18 years old + meets Wednesdays from 2:30 pm to 3:00 pm.
TheNational Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism describes art therapy as a type of expressive group therapy that can help people express their thoughts and feelings that they may not be able to say with words. This therapy is especially helpful for people who have underlying psychological issues related to their addiction, such as a history of abuse. Since creating art is often a nonverbal process, and expands the ways a person can convey ideas and emotions, art therapy provides an opportunity to explore, understand, and resolve issues in a person’s life that he may not feel comfortable talking about in a regular conversation.
